Oh my god Denny Crane and Alan Shore just went to a spa together then they had a fight over what their friendship meant to each of them and then they got back together and talked about how much they needed each other and then they sat next to each other and smoked cigars and "Stand by Your Man" played on the soundtrack. I love love love Boston Legal; it's hysterical, in both the "funny" and "really quite insane" senses of the word.
ETA: hahahaha, the season three opener is called, "Can't We All Get a Lung"

Date: 2006-07-25 12:30 am (UTC)I think that the Denny/Alan relationship is the best thing about BL. Closely followed by Shirley and Paul. Denise is growing on me. And I am so, so glad that those two interns they bought in (to try and grab the younger audience?) have just faded away, because they just weren't funny. I miss Tara and Lori.
But, yeah. The one thing for me that has stayed strong through both seasons is Denny/Alan. And while the slasher in me wants to be all "Denny/Alan", I just...can't. The Denny/Alan friendship is what makes me happy - they're bestest best friends, and it's terribly sweet. :-)

Date: 2006-07-25 10:49 am (UTC)Candice Bergen is really, really excellent as Shirley; seeing her face off against Joanna Cassidy was awesome. Denise has grown on me too, ever since the priest-fingers incident and the MJF stuff; I think Julie Bowen is a great comic actress, her reactions always crack me up. I love to see Denise and Shirley together, they make a really welcome counterpoint to Denny and Alan. Paul is always amusing and with the storyline about his daughter I'm even looking forward to Brad Chase's scenes, so the show can pretty much do no wrong for me atm.
It's a measure of how important those interns were that I actually forgot about them. They're better off gone, although I do recall being amused at the guy's terror when confronted by Denny Crane. Which is fair enough. I never saw any of Tara and Lori, but I remember reading really bad reactions to them on the Twop boards; did they bring the funny?
Ok. Totally shutting up now. Except to say that you're so right, Denny and Alan are just tooth-achingly sweet together.

Date: 2006-07-25 11:18 am (UTC)And yes, this episode was just pure crack for me. They nearly broke up! And then they reaffirmed their friendship, and I was happy!
I've seen some slash, but the sex bits made me want to look away. I mean, I've read Kirk/Spock, but I'm not keen on imagining William Shatner naked at his age now, y'know? I think the best fic I saw (not that I could find it now, of course) featured Denny and Alan getting married for convenience purposes, because I can imagine that happening in an episode. I just....they're my OTP, but I want them to just be friends forever. Except, friends with the continual gay subtext which Alan keeps discomforting Denny with, because that makes me happy.
The first episode I saw was the pilot, and I knew I loved the show when Alan and Brad were facing off (back when we thought Brad was going to be a pretty-faced Ken doll - thank god we were wrong!) and Alan said...well, see my icon. Love, right there. Not to mention I so have a thing for James Spader.
There were three female characters in S1 who got written out - Sally Heep was Alan's first love interest. She was a bit sappy and bland, and I'm glad she got written out. Tara was exquisitely hot with a sexy British accent, and she and Denny had an affair. I liked them as a couple - she could snark with him, which was neat - but ultimately, I wasn't sorry to see her go.
Lori, on the other hand...oh, I miss her. She was able to snark with Alan, but in a much more clever way - she could have the last word, and leave him all "Huh. That was very sexy." She was a good girl who realised that she was hideously attracted to Alan, and knew she shouldn't be, but oh god they would have made a fantastic couple. I really wanted to see that, and I never ship het.* She also had a wonderful friendship with Shirley, and you got the impression there was an interesting backstory there.
Denise has grown on me since the priest-fingers incident too. When she was introduced it was all boring relationship/divorce stuff, and I was in mourning for Lori, and didn't want another blonde. I think that she's got a sense of humour - or a sense of acceptence of the ridiculous that is necessary for working at Crane, Poole & Schimdt - and that's improved her character.
I have to admit I very nearly teared up at the end of tonight's episode. "Denny...." "Crane." !!!!
*Except Doctor/Rose or Jack/Rose or Doctor/Jack/Rose, which I know is Bad And Wrong anyway. :-P

Date: 2006-07-26 01:46 pm (UTC)Alan Shore, I would definitly hit. How can James Spader be even sexier in here than in Secretary? If Maggie Gyllenhaal guested on BL I think my brain would explode.
friends with the continual gay subtext which Alan keeps discomforting Denny with, because that makes me happy.
"I'm gonna tell you something no-one else knows. I'm homophobic." hahahaha! That stuff is so fabulous and I also love it when it's the other way around, when Denny's the instigator and Alan's always so happy to go along for the gay ride. My favourite Denny n Alan moment that I've seen so far would have to be the dance, oh my god, I couldn't breathe I was laughing so hard. "Anything Denny Crane can do I can do backwards and in high heels."
Lori sounds cool; thanks for making me even more desperate for season one! I'll miss Shirley and Denise but I'm dying to meet Donny Crane.
that is
