several things
May. 31st, 2007 12:49 pmAfter a discussion in
angstslashhope's journal,
moveablehistory has set up a Digg-style link aggregator. It feels like something that could fit perfectly with lj fandom--is there one out there already?--because the dispersed nature of it is something I hear people complain about quite often.
I think this could be a really, really useful tool to keep track of the several major events happening in fandom right now, and I encourage people to spread the word, join, and especially add links! I suppose
metafandom serves a similar purpose but link aggregators are perhaps easier to surf than lj, and it has the potential to be aimed at the fanlib/fanarchive and strikethrough2007 issues and the fan activism that has grown out of them with greater breadth and depth. Also, it wouldn't be for just lj links. Posts like
catrinella's awesome collection of links are great but can become unwieldy.
moveablehistory has also noted that link aggregators have the potential to serve as a centralised portal for access to decentralised fandom and fanfiction should there be mass migration from lj. In fact it would still probably be useful even if things stay essentially the same. As moveablehistory says, we can use the news one as a proof of concept to see if a fandom-wide one would be feasible.
Other shit you probably already know about:
fandom_counts,
fandompays. Interesting to see fandom try to take stoke of its numbers and how statistics will translate to resistance. The fandom_counts profile is occasionally breaking! This stuff fits into one my my major essays in ways I can't believe.
And on the season finale of House.....( vague spoilers )
oh, god, back to essays I suppose.

Nov. 16th, 2005 07:05 pmPuuuuuuny earthlings!
Do not forget, Three Stories is on what you call television tonight, as well as a straaaaange behind the scenes program.*
Love, Mark.
Many things to report upon, including the heart-breaking hotness of James Dean and River Pheonix, the majesty of last week's episodes of House and VM, and the awesome books I scored from a sale. But, essay calls (thanks for your help btw--EXTERMELY useful; Cecil B Demented is fucking hilarious, Elephant was really good too), and I'm on a bit of a roll. So, bye!
PS: Laaaaainy, I NEED a FOP icon! *bats eyelashes*
*SOCRATIC METHOD. In a special presentation we show-case behind the scenes footage and out takes as Dr. House is intrigued by the symptoms of a schizophrenic woman, who displays mixed symptoms, including a tumour, but soon realizes the source of her problems isn't the obvious. House confronts his birthday and Chase confronts his past.
WTF?
ETA: Veronamay! How dare you be writing when I don't have time to be reading! I keeeel you!

Sep. 21st, 2005 06:53 pmMy big laugh for the day.
(Veronica Mars icon yay! I've fallen way hard for this show.)
ETA: pimping
unified_feed, a syndication of The Unified Theory of Nothing Much, which has, amongst other things, great House commentary.

The Lost finale is such a load of wank it's almost boring. There were some nice bits, though: the end with Walt, the end with the boarding montage, Charlie getting bashed on the head, Shannon when the baby's brought back. I don't like the Jack/Locke = science/faith = good/evil dichotomy they seem to be setting up (because boring!), but I'm not entirely convinced that we're supposed to be thinking Locke = evil, so I'll wait and see. And whoever created the ad for S2 needs to be sacked.
I loved last night's House. There were so many great moments ("There was this weird old guy, he had a cane" ha! and pretty much every second of House himself) and I loved seeing more of Wilson (RSL has eyebrows of doom! I can't get over them) and Foreman. On a superficial note, Hugh Laurie killed me with that turtleneck. And the stubble! *uses House icon from this ep* Why is it that every single woman on this show is a thin, sharp-featured brunette?
ETA: Also Lisa Edelstein was really hot this episode. With that little lean in and "When you teach, you learn so much, doncha think?" my GOD.

I really, really love this: look! Tyre tracks. ON MARS. See how they just stretch off into the distance? This is so utterly fabulous! Stolen from

Numb3rs tonight was a bit more engaging than last week. It's completely predictable of me but I'm totally in love with Charlie (Don just keeps reminding me of rageprufrock's Hindsight AU FBI!Sheppard). Plus it's always good to see Sabrina Lloyd and she's looking hawt.
HBP links, spoilers DUH
Jul. 25th, 2005 05:20 pmA couple of great HBP essays, both of which have made the rounds but oh well, in case you haven't seen them:
fabularasa's extremely convincing Dumbledore does not plead.
It is Dumbledore who gives the game away to us, Dumbledore who is the tell.
lilith_morgana's insightful On Snape, Harry, Dumbledore and redemptions in HBP.
Most of us have been intrigued by the idea that despite everything, DD is so stubbornly trusting this deeply unpleasant man and we want to know WHY. While I still believe there is more to it and that we surely will be given reasons in the last book, I am fascinated by how HBP asks the more interesting question at this point – What is it that Dumbledore trusts Snape with?
Also, Australian House fans take note: the TV guide (at least in Adelaide) says that House'll be on on Friday night, but according to ebroadcast and the ten site Big Brother is so excellent and important that it'll be on instead. Meanwhile, what is up with the music that plays over the credits? I guess there must be a rights problem somewhere but I like Massive Attack's Teardrop way better and I hope it's restored for the DVDs.

Jun. 26th, 2005 08:05 pmTonight:*
frostmourne: You have to lend me those House episodes you downloaded.
lainy122: Sure. You know, it's gonna be on TV soon.
Me: Really? Let's hope they acutally play it in order.
Frosty: Fuck that shit. I'm not watching it on commerical tv.
Later tonight:
Me *looks at TV guide*: Hey, House starts on Wednesday! *looks again* With the second episode.
Yup, Channel Ten have decided they don't need no steenkin' pilot. Why ddo they do this? I wonder how long they'll mistreat my show before they decide to abandon it completely.
*May be slightly paraphrased....
