top ten movie moments
Feb. 14th, 2004 02:50 amWell, I like movies a whole lot, .
The War Zone: The scene where Jessie and Tom are talking and Jessie holds the lighter to her breast. Really any scene from the movie, but this one I remember particularly, and not in the least because of the amazing acting.
Happiness: The scene where Dylan Baker and his son talk and they both completely shatter, because it shattered me.
Black Stallion: The whole "getting to know you" sequence (the whole goddamn movie) but especially where Alex is nohands and they're just flying and when they flashback to it during the race. Supremely beautiful and touching. Will there ever be horse movie to touch this one?
Clockwork Orange: The Intro. First time I watched this, I sat there and saw this low, long zoom onto these creepy/comical characters, and then close up on Malcolm McDowell, who's voiceovering "There was me, that is Alex, and my three droogs, that is Pete, George, and Dim, and we sat in the Korova Milk bar trying to make up our rassoodocks what to do with the evening.", and I thought, this is going to be good.
Holy Grail: I love the language of the Monty Python gang. The britishisms they slip into their dialogue absolutely kill me. So while pretty much all of this movie is a keeper, one of my all-time favourite moments from it is when Sir Robin runs away and the three-headed monster says: "He's buggered off -- so he has, he's scarpered". Just thinking about it cracks me up.
Stand By Me: When Chris tells the story of the milk-money to Gordie. River Pheonix, man.
Batman Returns: When Catwoman backfilps and backflips and backflips to Batman and the Penguin and then says "meow" and then the store blows up. It doesn't get any hotter, folks.
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: The Bats Attack Duke and Gonzo While They're Driving. This movie is a magic combination of actors, writer and director. Again, the first scene where I really realised, this is so different, I am going to enjoy this.
Fellowship of the Ring: Pretty much the whole Amon Hen sequence but really Boromir's death scene (including Viggo and Lurtz's fight). When Borormir dies (which is sad enough in itself) it's like you can see Viggo's soul.
The Wall: "Goodbye Blue Sky". Such beautiful music paired with such terrifying imagery.
Honorouble mentions: Elbow sex in Rocky Horror Picture Show, The Groundhog Day slap/suicide montage, when Liam Neeson breaks down at the end of Schindler's List, the last scene of Hard Core Logo, which took me completely by surprise and and even had me in doubt for a few significant seconds, and Mandrake vs. Col. Bat Guano vs. the Coca-Cola machine in Dr Strangelove.
Speaking of movies, I just saw Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and I had a ball. I can't believe how much younger Robert Redford looks in The Sting (also a great movie), which was made after this. Anyway, I expected to like this movie but I had no idea it was so quirky and funny. Paul Newman looks fantastic on a horse. I just love it.
Not many people know this, but in Australia, the sexiest guy on telly isn't on Home and Away, but in fact is the voiceover dude for SBS. Now, I normally unequivocally detest any commercial, but even I was entranced (one might say, turned into a puddle of lust) when Mr Special Broadcasting Services urged me to quickly log on to www.gaymatchmaker.com.au and check out all the wonderful men just waiting there for me - bears, fairies, princessess, doms, subs, you name it, with the cutest little accompanying cartoons. Best. Ad. Ever.
