Dec. 31st, 2003 12:52 pmMovies That I Want To See But Can't Afford Especially Since The Fringe Is Coming Up:
Bright Young Things - Stephen Fry and Evelyn Waugh - can there be a better match?
Big Fish - is this out over here yet?
Dogville - I really enjoyed Dancer in the Dark, and I love Nicole Kidman and Paul Bettany
Japanese Story - Toni Collette - nuff said, and I love culture clash stories
Goodbye, Lenin! - looks funny
Looney Tunes: Back In Action
Lost In Translation
Love, Actually
Master and Commander
Mystic River
Not to mention the billion movies that haven't made it over here yet - Monster, etc.
And of course Return of the King. Every time I think of the danm thing I feel like running out and seeing it again. Damn your black heart Peter Jackson!
Also saw Peter Pan, reluctantly, and it was far better than I expected. I thought the only thing I would enjoy about it was Jason Isaacs but the entire thing was fantastic (although Tinkerbell became annoying). Jeremy Sumpter, the kid who played Pan, was incredible - held his own against Isaacs admirably. I was stunned by how close it remained to the book, I recognised so many lines of dialogue. I want to read it again, except I have so many books on my to read list:
A Confederacy of Dunces - got it for Christmas, enjoying it immensely
On Equilibrium - also for Christmas, the new John Ralston Saul
Dude, Where's my Counry - I bought it months ago, then had exams etc, then it was "borrowed"
Lord of the Rings - yeah, well, I wanna immerse myself in the mythology again; you just can't get that depth from the movies
The Silmarillion - same
Smokey, Sledge Dog of Alaska, Finn the Wolfhound, and White Fang - favourites when I was a kid that I've not read in far, far too long
the Silver Brumby stories - same
Pride and Prejudice - I have a total yen to read this again, Elizabeth and Darcy are one of my favourite ever couples.
Eve was Framed - My grandma sent this to me when I was a kid; I started it but could never get through it and I wanna try again
The Hitchhiker's Trilogy - a great yuletide fic makes me wanna reread these
Good Omens - succumbed and bought my own copy the other day. I adore this book
Riders, Rivals and Polo - Rupert and Taggie, one of my other favourite all-time couples. These three books are total guilty pleasures, I love them. Damn you, Jilly Cooper!
Peter Pan
Plus a whole bunch of Stephen Kings I would like to revisit
ETA: Oh, I forgot! Also The Sandman Companion which the lovely lainy gave me for my birthday, which means I have to rearead all the comics too :-D
ETA2: Oh, also a Harry Harrison (shut up! *g*) that I bought from a second-hand bookshop a million years ago and still haven't read. Man, I love the holidays.
At least books are cheaper than movies.
Happy New Year to all!
