All I am able to do is splutter incoherently, and think about buying a sniper rifle. And according to The Australian most Australians support him.

This I cannot get my head around. Those figues must be editorialised in some manner.

No way can the majority of Australians think that Howard is a voice of reason. No way can the majority of Australians be fooled by his utterly transparent fear and propaganda campaigns. No way can the majority of Australians actually believe that Howard is correct when he says that attacking Iraq will solve anything at all.

These stats cannot be true. I refuse to believe it. I've grown out of my pet theory that people were stupid. I'm sure I'm not wrong, there.

Goddamn I am so fucking angry and confused and frustrated and sad about this.

*shrugs* It's a quote from a book I just read. See, the main character is an anti-nuc activist, and she's with a bunch of other protesters at a nuclear power plant. They're "snowballing", which means that they each do an act in order to get themselves arrested, so the media will pay attention to them. In this case, they were cutting the wire of the perimeter fence. The police won't arrest them until they cut the wire, hence the bitching about not enough wire cutters.

You can get a survey to say anything you want. Ever seen the episode of "Yes, Minister" (or maybe it was Yes, PM) when Sir Humphrey made up two surveys on the spot, gave them both to Bernard and worded the questions so as to steer Bernard in a different direction each time? Bernard ended up with two opposing opinions regarding the same topic. Masterful little bit of TV, that.

I tried to find an online version of a postcard I saw on a fridge at a friend's place, it had Howard, Blair, Bush & Hussein against a backdrop of psychadelic mushroom clouds & bomber-jet peace signs, wit the logo "Give war a chance". I couldnt find it but I found the other one, & used that (after a few alterations)

now, i know you live in australia. but i am also a firm beleiver in the idea that australia is too pure and good of place to be involved in anything ever. thats just a horrible thought. there is absolutely no reason for your country to be fighting. its just so pretty. even the shape of australia is pretty. this really is a shame. :/

Boy have you been mislead. Australia is a shithole. We have such a miserable human rights record. For instance, we destroyed a great chunk of our indigenous population with disease when we first got here, then kidnapped half their children and tried to force them to be white. Now they're in such a miserable position they're either killing themselves with alcohol or other drugs or rotting in a jail somewhere. And our Prime Minister doesn't see a problem. We're also the second largest producer of greenhouse gasses after you guys, and we've only got 20 million people!

And don't get me started on the refugees!

Australia may have a pretty shape but at the moment I see very little about this country that is positive at all. And the little that we do contribute towards culture or positive policy-making we are doing our best to strangle.

no, i like being informed. and thank you. i think the entire problem can be traced to well everything ever, especially everyone thinking too much about the past and how little everyone cares for eachother. when the current leaders are old and dead we have to take the world into our hands and tear it out of the terrible thing it has become.
