I had a really awesome time in England, in which I, in no particular order: caught up with lovely family, some of whom I may never see again, some of whom I finally got to know properly; drove with the handicap of icy roads, two backseat drivers, impossible to navigate streets and English drivers who never turn off their high-beams and like to tootle along right up your arse at 50mph; saw snow for the first time; experienced my first run of sub-zero days; bought some really gorgeous things darling for the unit; set off lots of fireworks on New Year's; got to see new Top Gear and Doctor Who as they were being broadcast; drove around the Coventry ring-road approximately 50 000 times; went to the US for the first time (well, LAX for two hours so Obama could get my fingerprints and photo); saw seagulls falling over on the iced-over lake in St James's Park; went on a ghost tour of Liverpool; ate Brussels Sprouts that were actually palatable; saw about ten movies on the planes, including In Bruges which may have been 2008's best movie, and Appaloosa in which Viggo is wonderful and the ending is not; met a three-legged dog called Lola; won a free trip to New Zealand on the plane ride home by playing Who Wants to Be A Millionaire for three hours until I got the million dollar question; stepped off the plane into 43-degree heat and was immediately accosted by Channel 10 and ended up on the 5 o'clock news for half a second.

And that was my summer holidays my Jessie age 5.

Doing a puff piece about the first really hot day of the summer down here. Wow, it sure is hot, isn't it! Yes! I am currently experiencing the heat, and it is hot! Poor journo, he was obviously down there on orders and was very apologetic about bothering people coming off a long flight.
