Carnivorous deer and sheep. This is freaky and a little gross, but hilarious. The language they use ('deer attacks' 'prime suspects' 'catch the deer in the act') gives the impression of these deer walking around with nightsticks and balaclavas, leaping out and attacking birds. The fiends! Won't SOMEBODY think of the children?!
The animal kingdom is absolutely fascinating. How on earth did these deer (and sheep) hit upon such an inventive way of getting the nutrients they need?
In other news, I've been listening to Janis Joplin a lot recently. I suppose, considering the way I tend to be possessed by particular voices (I mean, Nick Cave, Blixa, Billie Holiday, Alan Rickman, Bjork, Tom Waits, etc etc), and my love of blues, it was only a matter of time before I got around to her. She's absolutely extraordinary, the next CD I buy is so going to be
Live at Woodstock. Her voice reminds me of a quote in
Telanu's 'A Most Disquieting Tea' where she describes a voice that 'sounded as if it had crawled hands and knees over broken glass'. Except in the case of Joplin, it sounds like her soul is being ripped out as well.
