nigeltde: if trixie could just think hard enough she would undo everything (Default)
Off to the optometrist's tomorrow, hopefully to get a new pair of glasses and so be rid of these stupid headaches; I think my prescription really needs an update. When I was a kid, before I got glasses, I used to get migraines all the time. I remember once the The Stand miniseries came on, the one with Molly Ringwald, and I followed it faithfully until this blinding migraine hit me and I spent the final half hour in the loo. Then a year or two later, it came on again. I had glasses by that point but sure enough I had another migraine and missed that bloody half an hour. I've still not seen it because I'm too goddamned superstitious. I really, really hate migraines.

On Thursday I was sitting on the Barr Smith Lawns at the Adelaide Uni, pondering my pending university life and giggling over my new ID card. Yesterday I found out that apparently my mum once heard Nader give a speech on those very lawns, and that once she was sitting on a wall bordering them with a guy who held a huge book. She asked him what it was, and that was the first time she'd ever heard of Lord of the Rings. She was seventeen. My mum never went to uni and I forget that she used to be quite politically active (the hippie that she was). Apparently Adelaide Uni used to be a 'hotbed of political activity', so she spent a lot of time there.

My mum is the coolest.

Peace rally on the 16th. Should I go? I'm not really the chanty type. I'll be too lazy to make a sign. I'll be this kind of island of apathy in the middle of a sea of angry arts students with hemp rucksacks painted all rastafarian-like.
