Australia's new government has accepted seven Burmese asylum seekers being held in Nauru, signalling a wind-down of a controversial immigration policy. Immigration Minister Chris Evans said admitting the group was a first step in dismantling the previous government's so-called "Pacific Solution".
I think we picked a winner, folks.
No, I mean, I'm sure he'll cock it up soon enough, and he still has a long way to go on the gay front, but the past couple of weeks have been filled with sigh of relief after sigh of relief, you know what I mean?
Meanwhile, I heard on the radio today that companies like BHP Biliton are paying their employees to sign Australian Workplace Agreements before they get phased out mid next-year. Motherfuckers. You know what I hate, it's impossible to boycott oil companies and still, like, live in this world because they're all as fucking bad as each other.

Date: 2007-12-10 10:12 am (UTC)Our time will come, and with gay-friendly Brendan Nelson leading the Libs now, we might have a chance of actually getting changes through parliament. Date: 2007-12-10 11:49 am (UTC)The example I love to use is the daughter of a workmate, who was fifteen years old when Annette took her to see Brokeback Mountain. The kid had trouble with the story because she had no concept of homophobia. She actually just didn't get, at all, why Ennis and Jack couldn't be together in Wyoming in the 1960s. That's...no amount of legislation will ever get you that.
