Just saw Godfather Pt II: awesome! My heart beats forever more in the name of Pacino.

From [livejournal.com profile] noncrapola_, except I cheated a bit.

01: comment here asking for a letter and I'll give you one
02: post your TOP 5 songs that begin with that letter along with these instructions
03: My letter was K, from veronamay, and I, from electromoon, seeing as the only Q I have is Dylan's Queen Jane Approximately :-(

I
I Want You (She's so Heavy) - Beatles
I love this underrated Beatles track from a totally bizarre and slightly schitzophrenic classic record (piano pop and comedy and blues-rock from the greatest band in the world? Aroo?). It's got that epic guitar hook and say what you like about Paul but this is some of my favourite bass work ever. And the whole wall of sound at the end....bliss.

I Remember A Time When Once You Used To Love Me - Dirty Three
A blinding epic. There aren't enough superlatives for this song. It does things for me. One day I'm going to get this song elected President of Australia.

Is This Desire - PJ Harvey
Love the sparse, syncopated percussion, love her heavy, questioning voice. The most accomplished song on an album of lush soundscapes. Gorgeous.

I Loves You, Porgy - Nina Simone
Is this not one of the most stunning vocal performances ever? You believe her when she says it's going to be like dying. You tremble in your freaking boots.

It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleeding) - Dylan
Everybody wants to be emo, even Dylan.* But he's sharp and witty and poetic about it, so it's fantastic. How can you resist lines like "Old lady judges watch people in pairs/ Limited in sex, they dare/ To push fake morals, insult and stare/ While money doesn't talk, it swears/ Obscenity, who really cares/ Propaganda, all is phony."

Honourable mentions:
I Know It's Over - The Smiths
I Can't See New York - Tori Amos
I Don't Remember - Peter Gabriel

K
Kozmic Blues - Joplin
My favourite Janis Joplin song. I always quote the first line--time keeps moving on--at people and they must be sick of it but the way she sings it, oh, it's so achingly true. And the piano is fantastic.

King Ink - Birthday Party
Fun, fun, fun in the hellish pop world of the Birthday Party. Oh my god, doesn't this song just make you want to dance around the house like a jerky Nick Cave marionette?

Karma Police - Radiohead
It's just really, really good. You like it, don't you? And isn't the film clip awesome?

Killing An Arab - The Cure
Oooh, hear that! Where are we? Persia? The exotic streets of Istanbul? No! On a beach in France, being all existential-like. Camus via the Cure and a boppy bass line. Love it.

Knocking On Joe - Nick Cave
So I listened to The Firstborn is Dead a lot during year 12 and this song was always a standout, endlessly fascinating lyrics and you know, just WOE WOE WOE AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. Awesome.

Honourable mention:
Keep On Running - Cat Power
Knocking on Joe - Nick Cave

*I wish my lawn was emo. Then it'd cut itself.
