nigeltdeMore thoughts on Rogue in X-3
I can see that it's not ENTIRELY out of character for her, the way they've set it up in the three movies. She's younger, she wants a boyfriend, etc. But:
-They didn't establish to my satisfaction that it was for her and not for Bobby, what with her feeling pressured for sex, esp with a rival on the scene who Bobby can touch.
-We didn't get ANY info on how she was going controlling it, how the Professor may or may not have been helping her. Can she turn it into a positive power or is it just an uncontrolled liability?
-If it's an uncontrolled liability, what is she doing on the X-team (eg in the training session)? Because with her gloves on, she's essentially a powerless human.
-If it can be controlled positively, why would she give up on training and give up the power entirely? (See first point)
-It meant that SHE WASN'T THERE TO HELP HER FRIENDS. If she's on the X-team, she essentially abandoned them during their biggest ever battle when they were vastly outnumbered; AND she ensured that she would never be able to help them again!
-She has such an interesting and huge power. She needs to confront possibly having to kill people, dealing with their personalities inside her, and the powers they bequeath her. I would really have liked to see her deal with that instead of give it away; it would have made for interesting cinema.
If mutants are the gays and the cure is a cure for homosexuality, the analogy that resonated more strongly with me, Rogue's decision comes across as curing herself of gayness so that she doesn't transmit disease to her partners. So now she has a "normal" sexual life, instead of working with her disease and, like, waering a condom. FOR HER MIND. Or something.
