Interview meme
May. 1st, 2005 06:12 pmThese things are so much fun! You get to find out lots about people.
1. Leave me a comment saying, “Interview me.”
2. I will respond by asking you five questions. I get to pick the questions.
3. You will update your blog/site with the answers to the questions and leave the answers as comments on my blog.
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.
Questions from
chameleongirl79:
1 - What 5 things do you consider essential for others to know about you?
2 - If you could trade places with any super villain for a day, who would you choose and what would you get up to?
3 - What's the story behind your username?
4 - Peace or freedom?
5 - Umm ... is Adelaide as boring as everyone says?
1 - What 5 things do you consider essential for others to know about you?
-Well, probably the thing that most people don't get about me is that I am a total recluse. There are maybe three people in the world I could hang out with for for more than five hours without becoming physically *exhausted*. And I tend to think, very selfishly, hey, we just saw each other three days ago! You want to get together again?
-I don't spend much time in it but the natural world is a constant source of amazement and joy for me.
-I'm Not Judging You For Having Different Political Beliefs. I love you! In a rather abstract, non-crepy way. However, I probably will assume a rather condescending attitude towards you, namely, I Will Eventually Convince You To Join My Position Because I Am The Holder of The One Truth.
-I generally assume the best of people, which I guess is as intellectually lazy as assuming the worst, but eh.
-I am a champion compartmentaliser and therefore a champion procrastinator.
2 - If you could trade places with any super villain for a day, who would you choose and what would you get up to?
-George Bush Lex Luthor, so I could use his power for good! And (and this is the Rosenbaum incarnation) perve on myself and have lots of sex with Superman.
3 - What's the story behind your username?
-'Tis a holdout from my DAAS fandom days, which I haven't really been involved in since 2000, 2001. I've just always found the idea of Nigel, The Dwarf Exploder, hilarious. I don't really even know what it means.
4 - Peace or freedom?
-Well, if we're talking Homeland Security sort of stuff, then freedom. IMO when you restrict people's freedom in the name of peace, you're actually doing a form of violence to your populace (literal violence when you enforce those laws). If we're talking actual warzones, then it seems to me that you can't have freedom without peace; and if we're talking peaceful strict dictatorship vs unpeaceful democracy, then give me the democracy.
5 - Umm ... is Adelaide as boring as everyone says?
Short answer: yes. Lol. Long answer: depends on who you are. The kind of stuff I find interesting nobody else my age does; the kind of stuff my peers find interesting I couldn't really give a crap about. I will never be bored so long as I have the internet and/or a good book!

Date: 2005-05-01 02:59 pm (UTC)Well, I thought your questions were excellent, and I'm going to steal the first one:
1. What 5 things do you consider essential for others to know about you? (no copying and pasting :-P)
2. Favourite member of the Authority and why?
3. Artemis Fowl vs Harry Potter: who gets annihilated?
4. Is it better to compromise your values for practicality or stick to your guns, even though that might not get much done?
5. Taking a look at your interests, I can see you have Piers Anthony listed! And here I thought I was the only fantasy geek in Australia
crazybrave enough to tackle Xanth *g* What is your favourite sci-fi/fantasy world/universe (eg, Middle Earth, Xanth, etc), and would you acutally want to live there?no subject

Date: 2005-05-02 01:14 am (UTC)Questions for thee:
1. What period of history would you like to live in, and why? (has to be past history!)
2. General Hammond vs. Isaac Jaffe showdown. Who wins?
3. You can only snog one: Josh Charles or Robbie Williams. You must decide!
4. Tell me who your favourite woman from the 20th century is (can't be your mum! :-P).
5. Is it better to repressrepressrepress to the point of explosion or be generally a little bitchy?

Date: 2005-05-02 12:20 pm (UTC)- I'm no good at keeping in contact with friends (see first answer). I have, literally, not spoken to friends for several years and then just taken up where we left off. They know this and love me anyway.
- Never leave me alone in an unfamiliar situation, I tend to panic/withdraw. This includes cities, parties/crowds and any place where I don't know the people.
- I haven;'t grown up. I watch cartoons, play with 'action figures' and read comics. Deal :)
- As much as I love having people visit, you must. Call. First. Random drop-ins annoy me. A lot.
2 - Oooo. I really love the Engineer :) She's strong yet human. She angsts over the violence and death, but still gets the job done. Her power kicks arse! Plus, she looks really good in her 'costume' ^_^
Jenny Quantum comes in a close second :)
3 - Hmm ... I love them both, but Harry's gotten kinda whiny lately. Yeah, he has an excuse (he's the world's Most Doomed Child) but Artemis is fun and evil and oh-so smart.
Let's blow up scar-head :D
4 - As much as I would like to stay 'stay true to your beliefs', I know that I am the type to give in if it would accomplish what I wanted. So long as the consquences weren't too harmful, and you could live with yourself afterwards, I don't see a problem with compromise.
5 - I love Xanth, I own all the books :) But as much as I love them, I could never live in Xanth, the puns would send me batty.
I'd pick the Discworld. Fun, magical, slightly nuts and choc full of interesting characters. Plus, it has Death :D

Date: 2005-05-03 03:11 pm (UTC)I love Engineer! She's been like the voice of reason in Revolution. Her and Shen (I *wish* we got more on Shen! She's been a bit of an enigma all through Stormwatch and Authority).
the puns would send me batty.
That's why I haven't been able to pick up the last couple; my brain screams and drops dead. Night Mare and A Spell for Chameleon were quite formative for me, though.

Date: 2005-05-03 02:16 pm (UTC)2- Why do you live in Whyalla? (I am curious because I can't recall you mentioning. I kept thinking of Whyalla when I was reading the Dispossessed, actually, with all those medium-sized remote towns in harsh conditions.)
3- I also love geeky who wins questions: Nick Cave vs Blixa Bargeld??
4- Why is "killing kittens" such an interest?
5- What do you think makes "the good life"?

Date: 2005-05-03 03:32 pm (UTC)(1)- I'm a natural introvert.
(2)- Introverts are not nescesarily hyperfragile, messed up or unhappy people. A balanced introvert is like the proverbial camel in the desert, able to go a long way on very, very little anything - a handy ability to have. I like being inhumanly low-maintainance.
(3)- It's the quiet, plain looking ones you have to watch.
(4)- I prefer my art & music to be like a good chocolate - dark, rich and bittersweet with a subtle (& not nescessarily smooth) texture, - and a good mood-booster at any time of the day (or month).
(5)- I prefer to use my powers of being a quiet-plain-looking-one-you-have-to-watch for the betterment of humanity rather than it's downfall.
B:2- Why do you live in Whyalla? (I am curious because I can't recall you mentioning. I kept thinking of Whyalla when I was reading the Dispossessed, actually, with all those medium-sized remote towns in harsh conditions.)
A lot of reasons: practically all of my family is in the region, I've got a house (ok, a Trust home..) I
with good insulation, a decent yard and a bathtubreally like with reasonable neighbours, it's cheap, the supermarkets are open every day of the week & I've got a lot of ties/memories with the region - my very earliest memories are etched with hot red sand, bluebush & bindii's. There are some serious downsides to it too - most of them dont concern me much but some (like the very narrow training opportunities & the slow job market for non-laborers) are serious enough that I'm quietly considering my options over the next year or so - it may be nescessary to go back down town again if I want to get the qualifications to continue on in a career-way with something I'm still very interested in (storytelling via the film/cinema medium), which has been stagnating a lot since moving back up here from Adelaide. At the moment I'm testing myself seriously to see if I want badly enough to take up this field again and go with the sacrifices & risks that will be involved with it - because there will be and I want to make sure I really want to do this enough /grande speech.C:3- I also love geeky who wins questions: Nick Cave vs Blixa Bargeld??
ok..I know there are some people who will call me a ficklebutt for saying this, but in spite of everything else recently I have to be brutally honest & say it's still mr.B. I cant excuse myself by saying it's a "what Will Luke & The Twins Think?" thing; Slow-burning Obsession is just as irrational & stoopid as true lurve. But Nick still gets to slink away unscathed for the grand sequel..
D:4- Why is "killing kittens" such an interest?
I think you'll find the answer to that Here (http://www.ragingplatypus.com/i/godkills.gif)
E:5- What do you think makes "the good life"?
space to do the things that are most important for you, and the freedom to explore the things that most interest you. I think the space/freedom thing is the key with me - I can pretty well make a lot out of nearly nothing, but cut me off & squeeze me in beyond some invisible demarcation line & I literally shift into a kind of hibernation mode. There are some people out there who like having a zombie around, but I personally never liked being one - been there, done that. Also see: A:(4) above.
