May. 28th, 2005 08:07 pmFuck! I've just seen Aguirre, Wrath of God, and while I was put off at first by the bizarre ADR, Klaus Kinksi is fucking amazing. This would have to be one of the most unsettling movies I've ever seen. It's about this band of conquistadors in Peru that get split up when one group is sent off on rafts down the river to find food & reconnoiter, and the second in command, Aguirre, orchestrates a takeover because he, well, let's just say he's a little ambitious. And crazy.
There's this one monoglue he has where he fixes you with his gaze and man, I felt this moan of terror well up in me (and in the final scene, as well).

"If I, Aguirre, want the birds to fall dead from the trees, then the birds will fall dead from the trees. I am the wrath of god. The earth I pass will see me and tremble."
Basically, in the end, everyone dies, including his daughter.

But fuck, Kinski is just creeeeeeeeepy. For some reason I never finished watching the 1979 Nosferatu but I'm going to now. Coincidentally, the dude looks a lok like Willem Dafoe, who played Max Schreck in Shadow of the Vampire (also an excellent movie), who played Nosferatu in the original.
ION, I had my Lavender Ladies luncheon today (the hospital puts it on for us in thanks) and we went for a cruise on the Port River and I saw some dolphins! It was awesome.
