Feb. 19th, 2004 08:53 pm 50% of me is a huge nerd! How about you?
I thought I did abysmally but it seems some of my guesses came through :-D
I have been reading almost to the exclusion of all else, the last couple of weeks. It's simply too hot for the computer at my dad's house (my room doesn't have air-conditioning) and my mum's computer is so maddeningly, maddeningly slow (Something really weird is happening too; I find that the more time I spend away from my comp, the more time I *want* to spend away from it. Maybe I just dread the amout of spam that awaits me in my inbox.) There's fuck all on the television, just one inane reality show after another. I finally got my hands on Unfinished Tales which was a great read. I especially loved reading more about Galadriel and Celeborn. I adore Gladdy. She's the most kick-ass elf chick this side of Luthien.
Also saw RotK again, and I just want to say, how fucking fantastic is the charge of the Rohan? There's this bit where you see the horses and riders just gallop into the fray, scattering and trampling orcs, and at first I thought, oh, look at that, you can tell those orcs are CG because they have absolutely no effect on the horses - its just the same effect as when the King's Guard charges down the causeway of Helm's Deep (those riders chopping at no-one always make me giggle). And then I realised, that's exactly what would happen - those horses, with all their armour and the rider and his armour, would weigh perhaps 2000 pounds. The orcs might weight a tenth of that, and they don't exactly have momentum on their side ("Forward, he cried, from the rear, and the front ranks died."). Ai. I cannot, cannot wait for the EE.
Although, is it just me or does Galadriel say the Star of Elendil, instead of Earendil?
I have tickets for a show at the Adelaide Festival called Absolute Zappa, which I am rilly rilly looking forward to. Seats are shitty, but I'm going to listen not look, right? And it should be nice to spend some time with my dad at any rate.
Anyway, back to my book. I'm reading the second Aubrey/Maturin novel atm. They're so adorable, and the ship stuff and the historical stuff is fascinating.
