The new Bad Seeds vibe began after Blix Bargeld's departure. Why did he leave?
A few years back, we were trying something for a movie Wim Wenders was doing on the blues. We were doing this uptempto version of I Feel So Good by some blues dude. In the end, Blixa just threw his guitar down and ran into the control room and shouted, "I did not get into rock'n'roll to play rock'n'roll!" And that was pretty much the last time he played with us. With Blixa, the guitar always had to do something else than what the guitar really does. Which I did love, of course. Warren [Ellis], by contrast, doesn't really give a fuck if he sounds like other people sometimes. If it rocks, it rocks.
