nigeltde: if trixie could just think hard enough she would undo everything (Default)
Just saw Minority Report, which I expected to be much better than it was, and therefore I probably like it less than it deserves. It was a good whodunnit, scfi-fi/noir with a clever plot, a nice twist or two and a great look. But geez, did it have to treat us like retards? Here is a plot point! Don't bother paying attention because we'll be repeating it again in five minutes and then in 15 minute intervals. I've also prepared a lovely flow chart for you, and Tom will be nicely recapping it all at the end anyway in monosyllabic words just in case you missed something. Oh look, here's some gratuitous gore, yum! Yay, badly written exposition! A scene with a huge amount of potential that fails to be creepy! An ethical question entirely not asked! A lame gimmick half-heartedly done and then ignored! And a lame-ass ending. I'm not averse to happy endings, but that was so sugary and insipid, euuuugh.

I guess I'm just mad that it was such a superficial treatment of what could have been a really interesting, thought-provoking film. I'll have to check out the book and see if it's the same.
