What are some American films with gay/queer teens in them?

um...there really aren't too many, are there? Clueless. Pretty In Pink. The Incredible True Story of Two Girls In Love (is that the title?) I hear in the movie Elephant they made the two killer boys lovers...cuz they're killers it must be okay for America to view, I suppose. But if we're going for that, I would then mention the film Murder by Numbers for total, murdering gay subtext.

and then...uh...I can't think of anymore. Unless you count all the vaguely effeminate teen boy sidekicks to all the angsty normal girls in teen romances.

DUCKY!

There's an extremely surreal one called But I'm A Cheerleader... High school age, but. So weird, dude.

Man, I feel so underrepresented.

Oh, and Boys Don't Cry probably counts.

I came across a list here (http://www.cs.cmu.edu/afs/andrew.cmu.edu/usr/out/public/Filmlist) that may be useful.

Hmm....I saw this movie absolutely ages ago called Sleepers (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0117665/), that involved a bunch of boys at a juvie detention centre, where they were sexually abused. Does that count? I can't remember if there was anything between the boys themselves....(great movie, btw, Brad Pitt, Minnie Driver & Kevin Bacon)

Also, obviously, My Own Private Idaho is a classic *g*

Other than that, I can't think of anything specific with teens.....most of the ones I know deal with couples in their twenties - Kissing Jessica Stein, Philadelphia, Queer as Folk, etc, etc. Sorry I can't be more help!

not sure if all of these will be useful...

I suppose you're talking actual canon, here, aren't you? :-)

Mean Girls

Bring It On

Rebel Without a Cause (subtextual reference only because of the Hayes Code - the clue is the picture of Alan Ladd hanging in the Sal Mineo character's locker. I think it was probably intentional.)

Life as a House (I *think*. Check up on that one)

In and Out (once again, subtexty - the first kid to stand up and say "Excuse me I'm gay! sounds extremely sincere)

Parting Glances

This Boy's Life

William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet (is the Mercutio character canon bi? I'm sorry, the slash goggles are on so firmly these days it's getting hard to tell!)

Wonder Boys (OK, Tobey Macguire is only just out of high school, does that count?)

Fried Green Tomatoes (I think the implications of Ruth and Idgie's relationship are incredibly strong, and they do meet as teens/young women)

There's also Girl and Cecil B Demented, though the latter is heavy on the parody/satire.

SPF is in it, yeah. It's been a while since I saw it, but I distinctly remember the lead female character's best friend confesses she's in love with her - right at the end of the movie, though, so I don't know if it's relevant to you. There's the usual simmering tension, IIRC.

In CBD one of the ensemble characters is gay, and he's in love with a guy who loves him back but is unfortunately straight, so gay sex squicks him. It's very sweet and tragic, really.

Heheheh I'm kinda wishing I'd picked that movie up too - it's so incredibly dorky, I quite liked it *g* It is by no means enthralling cinema though ^_^

Rofl! WELL! See if I ever help YOU again :p You can find your own gay teens by yourself! *flaunts off in a huff*

Oh, silly you. SPF is utterly gorgeous in "Girl" - he plays a rock star with a huge ... ego. Mmmmguh. Plus Selma Blair is in it!

Cecil is a John Waters movie, so it's crackpot and fantastic and it has Stephen Dorffness. It was released on DVD just recently and it's fairly cheap at the moment, I think. Go buy it. Shoo! *waves hands*

It's so weird to see the guy who played Mercutio being such an utter non-entity on Lost.

/non-sequitur

Ack, I've still got the first season of that sitting untouched on my shelves. Must see it sometime, but I'm waiting for The Right Mood.

so Sandra Bullock is hardened detective chick on the search of a sadistic killer. Only killer turns out to be killers and also waaay more interesting than Sandra Bullock's character.

Anyway, it's two high school boys who are so very close. So very close. And twisted and angry and jealous but of course not gay. Never. (It's based on a book I think, so probably in the book it's more obvious). I found it interesting and vaguely hot, much more than 'Rope', even though 'Rope' is more based on real events.

Ryan Gosling is in it, and he's always fun to watch, and the other boy is the main character from 'The Dreamers'.

Late to the party here, but Cecil B Demented is a fucking cack. Also, while you're inj John Waters land, try and find A Dirty Shame.
