Continuum was fantastic! I couldn't have asked for a better first con experience. I will do a proper write up later (lord knows I took enough fucking notes) but two things:

NEIL = HAWT
POPPY = INFINITELY CUTE

Read OotP on the train back and so look a bit like a scary zombie (YAY ZOMBIES!)

Was it just me or did nothing really happen in the first three quarters of this book? They're not at school, they are at school, they learn some stuff, R & H bicker, rinse, repeat. I still found it extremely entertaining and probably a reread will bring out the subtelties. But plotwise, my god! I think the first five chapters of OotP covered as much action. The end was extremely exciting, although not much of a surprise. Actually, no, I was expecting Draco to cark it, so a little surprise there. I'd be disappointed but she gave him some character, so I'm interested in seeing where that goes. I've also started to really adore Harry; his character development after OotP is fantastic.

I loved all the Snape stuff, although I'm sheepish to say I didn't figure out he was the HBP till quite near the end *g* At this point I'd be happy for her to take his character either way, but secretly I hold out the hope he's still working against Voldie and I think that the early inclusion of the Unbreakable Vow supports that. I've seen the argument that he killed Dumbledore in order to reinforce his cover (wtf? Kill your greatest asset so you can spy a bit better?) but I read it more as a pre-agreed putting-him-out-of-his-misery-Obi-Wan-Kenobi-zen-killing-me-only-makes-me-stronger thing. I liked the hatred on Snape's face as he killed him; I read that as more anger at Dumbledore and himself for letting things get to this (I cracked up at his freak out at Harry near Hagrid's cabin: "You fool! I am the HBP! Muahahahaha!"). I was getting quite worried as I read because I saw a lot of clues pointing towards Snape being the dead body at the end, and I'm glad it went down this way (and as [livejournal.com profile] lydia_petze says, it was necessary to Harry's journey). Meanwhile, I get why it was necessary plot-wise for Harry to be frozen at the end, but I didn't quite understand the internal logic there.

I'm with everyone on the Tonks/Remus WTF? Harry/Ginny doesn't do much for me although I find Ginny pretty entertaining, although not as entertaining as Luna who is brilliant. I've always liked the idea of (canon) Ron/Hermione so I enjoyed that although I wish a little more had been done with it. I like the concept of Horcrux and how that explains Voldemort's degeneration, although I believe that I may possibly have seen the "hero must find magical articles" plot before, somewhere. Actually, I have quite a bit of faith in JKR and I'm very, very excited about the final book.

In closing, the adult cover is gorgeous.
