Sad to hear that Latham has been finally hounded out of office. Inevitable, I guess, and with the pancreatitis I suppose he can bow out with at least a modicum of grace. I never really understood why people and the media seemed to hate him so much and I thought he was doing quite well, even if his "Progressive Labor Party" isn't exactly my idea of progressive, it's a start. Politicians are almost always a case of who's the lesser evil, and Latham was no exception, but I did quite often feel good about him. The chaos that is the Labor party won't disappear with him gone and someone like Beazley, who has more integrity than Howard but that's really not saying much, in charge.
